Whether fashion isn’t your thing, or you really just don’t want to put thought into putting together your outfit, pairing suit and shoe colors has been a long-time question for many. With so many options available, it can be tricky to figure out what will have you dressed your best. View the guide below to see just what color combinations can pull your suited style together…

What to wear with… Black Suits

  • Black: This may be an obvious one, but it is always best to go with black-on-black when it comes to picking the right shoes for your black suit. It is very rare to pick anything but this combination – it is a sleek and classic look that you simply can’t go wrong with.

What to wear with… Dark Grey/Charcoal Suits

  • Black: For a professional look, black is a much-proffered color combination.
  • Cognac/Brown: If you’re willing to step out of your box and you are going to a less professional or formal event, it is possible to pair this suit color a darker cognac or brown shoe, as long as it’s along the dark grey side versus a charcoal suit – just be sure you are bringing in that color family with your tie and pocket scarf.

What to wear with… Light Grey Suits

  • Black: For a professional look, black is a much-proffered color combination.
  • Brown: Brown looks best with a light grey suit and can be pulled off for a more casual look. This style is best pulled together with a patterned shirt or tie.
  • Cognac: Cognac, which is a lighter, warmer brown is also a great option for a light grey suit – especially during the spring and summer months.

What to wear with… Blue/Indigo Suits

  • Black: For a professional and sleek look, black can be a great option for a blue suit (forget what everyone has always told you about black and blue not pairing well together).
  • Brown: Brown is your best option for a blue suit – whether it be navy or indigo.
  • Cognac: If you’re going for a brighter, more colorful look, a cognac shoe can look great with suits in the blue color family.

What to wear with… Colorful Suits

When you’re not opting for the typical black, blue, and grey suits, there are a lot of options out there that may suit your style. These looks will typically be for more of a casual event, and can be paired with various prints and colors to create a fun and unique outfit.

  • Black: Always a go-to, especially if you’re needing to be dressier for an occasion.
  • Grey: Something you may have not thought of is trying a grey shoe. This can be a great neutral option for many different color suits. Our advice: try to choose a tie that has grey tones so the outfit is seamlessly pulled together.
