I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the first day of fall than chatting about fashion for the new season with reporter Kristi Larson on Valley News Live. These segments have become something I look forward to, not only because I get to show off looks from our stores, but because the crew – Lisa Budeau, Kyle Bosch, Lisa Green, and Kristi – are all so open to stepping out of their comfort zones and trying outfits they wouldn’t normally pick themselves.

For this segment, I wanted to give them looks that were not only easy to put together, but also very versatile – meaning you could pair the pieces in many different ways (you get more for your money that way!), while still showing off fall’s most relatable trends.

Here’s a quick intro…

Workday Wardrobe

Video Recap

There are so many different ways to incorporate trends into your workday wardrobe. Although some may have limitations to their dress code – in which case adding in pieces in fall’s most popular colors can be enough to freshen up your look – don’t be afraid to mix it up a bit by adding in trendy layers or opting for a fun texture or print for a 9-to-5 style.

The Trends

  • Floral prints
  • Crochet and Embroidery

Tips to the Trends

  • With a showstopping piece like this dress, it is best to keep the rest of the outfit very simple. Stick with understated accessories, and if you need to layer up for those cool fall days, opt for a lightweight shawl or a simple trench coat.

The Trend

  • Matching top and skirt (or blazer and skirt) sets

Tips to the Trend

  • If you’re looking to try out this trend, look for a set that is simple in color and pattern.
  • Have fun with the silhouette, and search for a set that complements your figure.
  • The best thing about this trend is that each piece can also be worn separately – think about that when choosing which set works best in your wardrobe!

The Trends

  • Fall-colored accessories

Tips to the Trend

  • Although there is not much men can do to differ up a suit, changing out a tie to a fall color or popular print can be a simple way to create a fall-friendly look.
  • A charcoal suit is a great color for fall and creates a very sleek and clean look.
  • A cognac-colored shoe can be a great way to add interest to an outfit! Solid black and dark brown are not the only options when wearing a grey suit – a cognac or chestnut Oxford can add an extra stylish touch.

Casual Looks

Casual looks are always fun to pull for the crew because it allows me to play off each of their personal styles, while still giving them a look that steps outside of their usual go-to pieces. Some of these key items can also be transitioned into anything from a look to lounge in to a great outfit for going out.

The Trends

  • Stylish sweaters
  • Layering with button ups

Tips to the Trends

  • Revamping your fall wardrobe has never been easier than switching out the classic crew-neck or v-neck sweaters with a more stylish silhouette.
  • By layering a chambray and denim shirt underneath and rolling up the cuffs over the sweater, it adds easy-to-achieve style element.

The Trends

  • Athleisure
  • Jogger pants

Tips to the Trends

  • The athleisure trend is here to say, and it makes for a great casual outfit for those fall days when you have a few errands to run or are taking the kiddos to the park but you still want to look put together.
  • Jogger pants can be easily transitioned from day to night with a switch of a shoe. Try them with a pair of heels, a blouse, and blazer for a night on the town.

Kristi’s Casual Look (#1)

The Trends

  • Leather
  • Crop top layering
  • Plaid
  • Trench Coats

Tips to the Trends

  •  Hesitant to embrace the crop top trend? Simply layer a crop sweater over a plaid button up (or even a long printed tank) to create a peek-a-boo effect!
  • Leather leggings are a sassy and fun way to embrace the texture trend.
  • Trench coats are now considered staple statement pieces. Try and find one that suits your personal style to wear with your outfits all fall long.

Lisa G.’s Casual Look

The Trends

  • Mock-neck tanks
  • Military jackets
  • Distressed denim

Tips to the Trends

  • Military jackets (and really jackets of any kind) are dominating the racks for fall. They are a great way to add interest to a simple outfit!
  • Mock-neck tanks are a must-have basic for fall. They are an easy layering piece, but can also stand alone (if the weather permits!). Try one out with a skirt and heels for a dressed-up option; or wear one with a pair of jogger pants, a jean jacket, and sneakers for something even more casual.

Kristi’s Casual Look (#2)

The Trends

  • Leather Jackets
  • Graphic Tees
  • Plaid Button Ups

Tips to the Trends

  • By layering trendy pieces, you can create a classic fall look that will give off some serious outfit envy!
  • Opt for a leather jacket that offers versatility. The cotton hood and zip panels of this jacket can be easily zipped off which gives an opportunity to create a dressed-up look by pairing it with a floral blouse and heels (shown in the video above).
  • Just because it has buttons, doesn’t mean they need to be used! Use an open printed button up as a layering piece to add interest.

Kristi’s Casual Look (#3)

The Trends

  • Cold-shoulder tops
  • Camouflage print

Tips to the Trends

  • Don’t put away your cold-shoulder tops from spring and summer too soon – they are back for fall! If you’re looking to step into this trend, this sweater from Evereve is the perfect starting point – it is just the right amount of skin, and comes in a classic color combo (who doesn’t love something that goes with everything?).
  • Camo is also a print you’ll be seeing this season, but don’t shy away if it’s not usually your go-to. These printed pants offered a perfect amount of pop, while still being a very subtle way to incorporate printed pants into your wardrobe.
